BETABRAND PRESENTS: HARVESTER PANTS

Our new farm-fresh trousers have arrived! Plus, we’ve got oceanic adventure, environmental stuntmanship, and an update on Disco Decision 2011.

At Betabrand, we know a hot Internet trend when we see it. And nowadays, that trend is Facebook food fanaticism — posting photos of meals, dutifully alerting friends when entering restaurants, even installing tiny mouth cams to capture every thrilling moment of mastication.

Today, we further the Web’s feeding frenzy by introducing our Harvester Collection, a bumper crop of summertime inventions that’ll be released according to California’s harvest calendar.

That’s right: You can look forward to fresh new Betabrand products (pants, shirts, jackets, and more) in natural colors like cherry, garlic, carrot, and corn — hitting our virtual shelves just as their ripe counterparts are arriving at the farmers market.

And here are the first selections of the season: our Harvester Craftsman Pants, available now in fava bean* and blueberry.

Like the rest of the Harvester Collection, our Craftsman Pants are made of 100% organic cotton canvas and dyed using a low-impact, enviro-friendly technique that matches the natural color of their fruit or veggie namesake.

These durable, super-comfy trousers come loaded with a pair of patch pockets front and back, a front coin pocket, and a utility pocket on the side, roomy enough for essentials like an iPhone, vine clippers, or one Macho-Extreme Larabar.

And we’ve given them a bunch of other goodies, like antique brass rivets and buttons, burgundy stitching details, flat-felled seams for super-sturdiness, and a frontier-classic “V-notch” at the center back of the waistband.

No matter what field you work in, we think you’ll agree that our Craftsman Pants are a great pair of trousers. They’re available right now, exclusively in the Betabrand online store.

We also want to remind you that Harvester is more than an excuse for us to photograph our friends and neighbors gorging on blueberry pie and performing other produce-related stunts; it’s a call for our fans to do the same. So warm up your cameras and appetites for a summer full of food, fun, and amateur fashion antics — the next harvest arrives in a few weeks!

*Why did we use the color of dried fava beans instead of fresh? Market research indicated that the latter is popular only within the small but dedicated community of Jolly Green Giant enthusiasts.

Coming This May: Eco Knievel

Betabrand is proud to announce an environmental doubleheader next month: 1) a Commonwealth Club roundtable on injecting testosterone into the environmental movement and 2) the death-defying Eco Knievel stunt jump, in which an electric bike will soar over a bio-diesel monster truck at Maker Faire. Yes, we’re teaming up with San Francisco’s Onya Cycles to perform the world’s first 100% sustainable stunt — which also happens to be 1,000% badass. If you have any experience saving the Earth or cheating death and would like to help, please let us know. Look for more info in upcoming editions of the Betabrand newsletter.

Today, Betabrand’s intrepid ocean explorer introduces us to life on the boat. Watch as crew members of the Sea Dragon sup on their meager rations, sing a couple of sea shanties, and battle the ever-present fear of sea-monster attack en route to legendary pant adventures on Easter Island.

Here’s a link to episode one, which was largely filmed from a helicopter.
