An interview with Carrie Kemper, Betabrand Model and TV writer of “The Office” and “Silicon Valley.”
Tell us about yourself. Who are you? What about your career are you most proud of so far?
Hi, my name is Carrie Kemper, and I’m a television writer from St. Louis. I’m about to get married in a week, so these answers are going to be really short; hope that’s cool with everyone. I’m in the middle of figuring out a reception seating chart, and it’s hard.
When did you first know that you were funny? Can you recall the moment and how it made you feel? Why did you choose to pursue comedy as your career?
Hmm, not sure. Where is my grandpa going to sit at my wedding? He wants to be close to the main entrance so that he “can leave,” but that’s where all of my friends are sitting. Do I make them sit with my grandpa?
He’s 93, but he’s still totally with it. Maybe it’d be fun for my friends? But what if he’s feeling argumentative? Will they be scared of him? He doesn’t mean anything by it! But will I be there to tell them that? No! I’ll be at another table!
What advice would you give to anyone seeking to find their own path – career, or otherwise?
Don’t leave your seating chart until the last minute.
What are you passionate about outside of comedy? What do you do on your free time?
