An Interview with Janie Haddad Tompkins, Betabrand Model, Actress, and Co-creator of the “Janie & Aaron Does Hollywood” podcast
Tell us about yourself. Who are you? What about your career are you most proud of so far?
Southern girl, L.A. based, bicoastal actress.
When did you first know you were funny? Can you recall the moment and how it made you feel? Why did you choose to pursue comedy as your career?
I am still waiting to learn if I am funny or not. I should ask someone, Adam Corolla, maybe?
What does it mean to be a funny woman in your personal life? and in show business?
Personally, I don’t differentiate between funny or not funny material. Striving for truth will either bring out something that strikes people as devastating or humorous. It isn’t up to the performer to decide.
What is your greatest daily challenge? Reward?
Parking!! Driving to auditions all day in unknown areas, always presents parking challenges. My greatest reward is being able to have the opportunity to pursue the life I want to lead.
What was your experience wearing Betabrand? How does your profession echo our brand’s mantras of crowdsourcing ideas & beta testing their potential?
I experienced so much comfort. I fell in love with the hoody blazer, and putting your product out there for people to respond to is always a good thing.
What advice would you give to anyone seeking to find their own path – career, or otherwise?
The single most important element for sticking to a hard path is mindset. In my opinion. If you can get that right, then whatever happens to you, good or bad, can’t faze you.
What are you passionate about outside of comedy? What do you do on your free time?
I love cooking!
Tell us how you really feel about Rubber Chickens.
If that is a band playing at Coachella this year, then I would have to listen and get back to you…
