In today's newsletter: new Farmers Market Backpacks, new Bike to Work Pants, a trio of awe-inspiring videos, and the launch of the Flannel Shirt Think Tank.
New Cornucopia Farmers Market Backpacks
Not since Inuit designer Nasamiituuq debuted a carryall made of finely woven seal blubber has there been so much buzz in the world of bags. Betabrand's Farmers Market Backpack now comes in two new limited-edition styles, Tan and Blue. Plus, we just restocked supplies of ever-popular Grays, Oranges, and Greens. Rejoice!
You may recall that we designed the Farmers Market Backpack with city shoppers in mind. You know, the tortured souls who can never seem to find much more than a couple of flimsy plastic bags to carry home their groceries. That's not a problem with our unique hybrid sack/backpack, the carry capacity of which rivals the Jolly Green Giant's snuff pouch.
Never heard about the ingenious transformative qualities of this sturdy cotton-canvas bag? Let us explain:
Mode #1 (Sack): When you’re ready to shop, just sling the bag over your shoulder and start shoveling produce into its gaping maw. Stacked compartments let you separate items and better spread their weight.
Mode #2 (Backpack): When it's time to head home, slap the bag on your back and away you go. When you're not out foraging, the Farmers Market Backpack comes equipped with a laptop sleeve and plenty of space for all your non-foodstuff stuff.
Features: outer backpack straps; inner shoulder strap; cash pocket; laptop sleeve; hooking pocket pouches that separate or release to create a full cylinder; and lots and lots of room — it's 2.5 times the size of a standard-issue EcoTote, and much more finger-friendly.
Even the North Koreans have fallen in love with the Farmers Market Backpack, as this brief and completely authentic propaganda video demonstrates.
Not moved? Perhaps then you'd prefer to watch a leisurely ramble through bucolic Marin County, courtesy of our engineer Hugues and his girlfriend.
Don't be seduced by the lies of unscrupulous vegetable vendors: You won't find the Cornucopia Farmers Market Backpack for sale at your local farmers market. It's available only in the Betabrand Bag Store.
New Bike to Work Pants
What began as a charitable project to clothe San Francisco's disturbingly large population of bottomless bicycle commuters has matured into our famous Bike to Work Pants, the office-ready trousers with enough built-in brightness to make the sun spurt solar flares of jealousy. Today we introduce our newly updated Black, Gray, and Moss versions.
We added beefier stitching to make 'em even more durable. In addition, each pair was pre-washed in a bath of tears from none other than Madonna del Ghisallo, patron saint of cyclists. Now you can ride with extra confidence!

Flannel Think Tank
When we began designing a new plaid flannel shirt in the Betabrand Think Tank, we thought it would be wise to consult the experts. So we interviewed approximately 2,000 Seattle-area Gen-Xers as well as the best and brightest from the North American Federation of Lumberjacks. And then we decided team up with COLOURlovers to hold a contest.
We asked the COLOURlovers’ community to help us design a brand new shirt. So far, more than 3,000 lovers of color have submitted patterns. (See them all on the COLOURlovers site.) The winner gets his or her name on the finished product, plus some other goodies. Want to submit a design? There's still time. Click here for more information. Or dazzle us with insightful commentary in the Flannel Shirt Think Tank.
